My Thoughts On Fine Art Photography and Digital Manipulation:

Photography and digital work are art forms that best demonstrates a basic truth: Artistry resides not in the hands but in the head.

Cameras and computers are merely tools. It's important to master the technical details of these tools. However, mastery alone will make dull, lifeless art. It's your soul, your imagination and creativity that makes art work come alive.

It is the confusion between mechanical skill and inspiration that has caused some people to question photography and digital work as an art form. In these fields it is the brain that interprets what is to be conveyed and then mastery of these tools to convey them.

I describe my photography as fun, spiritual, playful, whimsical, humorous, yet beautiful. Techniques I may employ on the computer are selective coloring of the image, and most often creating photo montages. Photo montages are done by combining two or more photos together. I do this using the pen tool in Adobe Photoshop and precisely selecting the areas of a photo and then overlaying it onto other photos. The edges often have to be softened a bit to seamlessly fit into the image, relative sizing needs to be considered and lighting needs to be consistant throughout.
